How Yoga Can Bring Joy in Self-Care

How Yoga Can Bring Joy in Self-Care - My Spa Shop

How do you feel about joy?  I aim for joy everyday.

But 7 years ago, I was in a very different place, both mentally and physically.  I was at the beginning of a journey that started in New York and eventually lead me to a full life transformation and HUM.  Get started with your joyful routines, discover our colorful, portable Yoga Mats and Fitness Accessories.

One of the things I realized at that time was that I could choose how I want to feel.  And I did.  I chose joy.  And carefully began to cultivate it as much as as possible, until joy became a state of mind and heart.  I'm not jumping with joy every single day, but most days I feel joy as a deep-rooted sense of well-being, like being at peace with myself and the world.

In fact consciously choosing to cultivate joy has made the the biggest difference in how I now live and experience my life.  It flavors everything I do. We all need joy!  It’s essential to our existence.  Don’t you agree?

But some days we get so caught up in our stress and anxiety and fears and frustrations that we forget we all deserve joy in our lives.  These are very challenging times we are living, and perhaps we all need as much help as we can offer ourselves.  I believe that focusing more on joy can open the way to feeling a passion for your life, to more inspiration, imagination and creativity, to a greater sense of fulfillment.

We certainly won’t feel joy every single day, but if we consciously choose to cultivate it we will have a better chance of living with sustainable joy.

PRACTICE TIP - TRY THE “I AM JOY” YOGA PRACTICE

I invite you to discover the I am Joy Yoga practice, it is about being joy. It is this intention that flavors the poses, and you are invited to luxuriate in the process, the breath, the movement - to savor each sweet sensation in your precious body.

CREATED WITH JOY

Everything HUM is created with loads of love and joy. Shop the Hum Yoga Collection, my favorite creations are the yoga bolsters and cushions are made with my own custom-designed organic cotton fabrics. The beautiful fabrics in 14 variations took 18 months to create from start to finish.  Figuring out fabric design and printing, finding the right people to do it, sourcing eco-conscious fabrics…all a far cry from my previous skincare career!  It took patience, perseverance and passion, but was so much fun - I hope you feel the joy!

INSPIRATION OF THE WEEK

“We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.” ~ Joseph Campbell

“Your body cannot heal without play. Your mind cannot heal without laughter. Your soul cannot heal without joy.” ~ Catherine Fenwick

Wishing you much joy this week, with love, peace and gratitude.

As a part-time resident of New York City, where yoga studios are abundant and the common mode of transportation is walking, I frequently see people coming from their yoga practice. I can tell this by what they are wearing as well as the yoga mats slung across their backs.
