“I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex.”
Oscar Wilde
Robes are royal. They invite the wearer to take her time and savor each step she takes, each sensation of sitting down. The robe – a simple thing, but as we all know, sometimes the simplest things are the best.
Each earthbound movement becomes a ballet of sorts, when done in a robe. We have a more immediate and intimate sense of our own bodies with just that one rich layer of cloth encircling our entire form.
-Purchase the most luxurious bathrobe you can find anywhere for any price. Go for the best. Don’t be practical.
-Lounge around in the robe and do absolutely nothing for at least 15 minutes. Cast yourself fully into the sensations your body is absorbing. Light a candle, breathe in the scent. An aromatherapy diffuser with a few drops of your favorite calming essential oil (neroli, lemongrass, geranium or lavender) will work well too.
If you just can’t seem to sit still and revel in your good fortune, at the very most you may polish your nails. But that’s all.
-After lounging around in your robe, try walking slowly with no purpose. With your robe cinched snugly about your waist, luxurious slippers on your feet, perhaps cradling a large cup of tea, or cocoa, take a leisurely tour of your home. Venture outside if you dare, stand out on the porch or back deck for a minute, surveying the neighborhood as if it were all your private domain.
Your magic, priceless possession? Free time. Just a few moments of it are as rare as pure gold. Stroll about in a truly first-rate bathrobe for a bit, and you’ll take a large first step toward entering the special space that most experienced spa goers know so well – the land of timeless ease and relaxation.
